I’ve been a loyal fan of Mati for years, recommending it to everyone I know, so it’s with regret that I write this review. Unfortunately, my recent visit was far from what I’ve come to expect, espeially after hearing similar feedback from a friend who visited the previous weekend.
We made a reservation online for a table, specifically not the bar, as it was our anniversary. Upon arrival, the hostess, with a deadpan personality, told us that tables reserved online are not guaranteed, and none were available. She seated us at the bar, at the worst possible spot, right at the front of the kitchen where staff constantly walked in and out. There were two open spots at the other end of the bar, but when we asked to sit there, she claimed those were reserved and didn’t offer alternatives. After we pressed, she begrudgingly moved us. Throughout our meal, we noticed a table for two behind us, as well as another nearby table, remained empty the entire time, leading us to suspect that was the table we originally booked.
The service at the bar, while friendly, was understandably less attentive than a dedicated server might have been. We ordered the burrata to start, but it never arrived. After waiting 50 minutes, all of our food came at once, which was frustrating since we were quite hungry. That said, the food was delicious.
However, the bathroom was beyond disappointing. I found a tissue with what looked like blood from a nosebleed on the floor in one stall, and the other stall had a large hole in the wall with an exposed light socket with no light. This was disappointing for a restaurant with such high ratings—it felt more like a cheap bar than a fine dining establishment.
When spending hundreds of dollars at a restaurant rated so high, you would expect stellar service, and clean facilities. Perhaps Mati should invest in more cleaning staff, hosts that are more agreeable and friendly, and find a better way to manage their online reservations. We will unfortunately not be
