   Well they just don’t miss!! Ryan was fantastic as always!!! So welcoming fun, knowledgeable, great recommendations and just a wonderful person to talk to. We went to the bar first and I don’t know her name but she was doing the bartender thing multi tasking making drinks asking what we needed, making fantastic old fashions. We got the salmon belly nigiri and of course it slapped, I let my friend order 4 rolls and we ate them all. Amazing flavor everything super fresh. O-Ku is probably my favorite restaurant in Charlotte it’s like the four seasons gave birth to a restaurant. Always an 11/10 experience!!! I took the sage friend their a few months ago after she beat cancer, I just asked for a special dessert to celebrate…. We were waited on like we were royalty and it was all super genuine it wasn’t forced they were absolutely celebrating her new life with us. That would have been plenty but they comped the entire bill and when I say we were celebrating we we’re celebrating drinks appetizers, all of the spoons just really not worrying the tab and they comped it anyway we both got a bit teary because of the gesture. I of course tipped a huge amount to thank them, I just want everyone to know it’s a high quality establishment that is excellent at what they do but they also have huge hearts and they care!!    Been to O-Ku more times than i can count, it’s my absolute favorite sushi place in Charlotte so hopefully this was just an off day. Just had several bad items that I normally love, and granted we were dining at 8:20 on a Sunday so i do understand that it’s tough on a non-prime time evening. Edamame was greatly over cooked, to the point of being mushy and falling apart as we tried to eat it, the yellowtail carpaccio looked like it was hastily filleted, with pieces of the silvery skin left on, and then sushi rolls we got were just ok. We were super excited to try the black magic box roll, but the overly powerful fishy taste left us leaving it on the table practically untouched after that first bite. The other rolls were decent, the spider roll, red dragon, spicy tuna crunch, and the Fuji, but again just not the spectacular level that I’m accustomed to from Oku. Again really hoping this was just an off night, definitely will still be back in the future to give it another shot!

   Madison served us. Excellent service. Host was pleasant as well. Sent the children home with a gift bag of chopsticks. :)

   The food is great and fresh! The service is not great. We had a dinner reservation at 7:15, quick to bring water but waited over 20 mins for drinks. Our food was another 30 minutes before coming out. Our server said they were running behind. Food is always great but service needs a lot of work.

   The food and drinks were all amazing but the service was extremely slow. Although I do believe it was a slowness in the kitchen rather than with the wait staff.

   Justin our server was incredible! All of the staff were as well, could easily go for a Michelin star if they wanted to, 5 star service

    I have gone to Ok-u in CLT tons of times and have always had an amazing experience, but today we went for a birthday celebration (which they knew of in advance and nicely put “happy birthday” on the menu) and it was by far the worst experience I’ve had. The waitress instantly seemed annoyed with us, everyone else in the restaurant was offered fruit for their water (minor thing but just an observation), and our food took 50 minutes to come out. I completely understand they are busier on M/W due to the happy hour deals, but our waitress wouldn’t even acknowledge us in that time to let us know that we hadn’t been forgotten. Also every time I have been there for a birthday Ok-u has been nice enough to give the guest of honor a small complementary appetizer, which didn’t happen… so we thought they may have discontinued that. No - the table next to us had a birthday and got it but we didn’t. The food itself was good, I really have no complaints in that regard, I was just disappointed at the overall experience and wait time, especially for a special occasion.
