My recent visit to Om Nom for a baby shower high tea left me with mixed feelings. Having been a fan of Om Nom's desserts in the past, I was excited about the high tea experience, but it turned out to be a blend of highs and lows.
The venue itself is chic and elegant, providing a lovely ambiance for a baby shower celebration. The staff, while friendly, fell short in terms of attentiveness. I found myself waiting longer than expected to get their attention for drink orders, which was a slight inconvenience.
The live pianist added a touch of sophistication to the atmosphere, but unfortunately, the volume was consistently too loud. This made it challenging to engage in conversations, often requiring us to pause and wait for the music to subside. While live music can enhance the experience, the balance was off in this instance.
One of the disappointments was the waiting time for desserts, which was notably slow. Considering Om Nom's reputation for delightful sweets, this was unexpected and somewhat dampened the overall experience.
As for the desserts themselves, they were a mixed bag. The scones, macarons, and the Tennis Player dessert were standout favorites, showcasing the pastry chef's expertise. However, the Strawberries and Cream Verrine fell short of expectations, feeling repetitive with the cream and jam already present for the scones.
The biggest letdown was the lemon tartlet, which proved excessively sour. While a hint of tartness can be enjoyable, this dessert was unfortunately unbalanced and failed to meet the high standard I had come to expect from Om Nom.
In summary, the high tea at Om Nom for the baby shower was an average experience. While there were highlights in the form of certain desserts and the elegant setting, service issues, loud music, and some disappointing sweet treats prevented it from reaching the exceptional standards set by Om Nom's previous offerings.
