Inspired by Edinburgh's famous authors, their words and their wisdom, our afternoon tea celebrates the city's storytellers and their famous tales. Each dish will take you on a journey of escapism through different chapters of history inspired by stories, poetry and prose. From Robert Burns to Irvine Welsh and many in between, this afternoon tea menu draws inspiration from each storyteller's depiction of our city and each dish represents a different chapter, fact or fiction, for you to enjoy in the world's first UNESCO City of Literature! Please note from the 4th Dec to 4th Jan all Afternoon Teas will be from our Festive menu. This experience is served in One Square Brasserie and requires a minimum of 24 hours notice.

Enjoy an elegant two-course brunch with La Garde Ecossaise Champagne. Begin with a sharing platter of fresh fruit, pastries & more, then a delightful brunch dish of your choice. Add a glass of La Garde Ecossaise Brut for £12 or upgrade to 1/2 bottle per person for £42. Scotland's famous 'Auld Alliance' with France was forged through centuries of shared values and strategic interests. In the 1420's, 6000 Scottish soldiers arrived in France to fight against the English. Their bravery was honoured with the Kings of France naming their personal bodyguard La Garde Ecossaise du Corps Du Roi; the Scottish Bodyguards to the King. This experience is in One Square Bar with live DJ each Saturday. Not available on the first Sunday of the month.

We had a voucher for brunch wiyh champagne. It was a bit of a disappointment to discover this was served in the bar rather than the restaurant however, the food was very nice and there was enough of it. What let our experience down was the lack of service from staff, hence why I think brunch should be served in the restaurant where staff are attentive. We asked for water, glasses were pored but the bottle was taken away therefore we had to keep asking for more which was fine while staff were near the table. On clearing the plates, a piece of melon rind was dropped. The girl said she'd come back for it. I picked it up after about 30 mins otherwise it might still be there. I have a walking impairment therefore slipping, and possibly falling on a piece of melon wasn't something I wanted to do. We ordered and drank our coffee. Yhen we waited for st least 30 minutes without a single member of staff coming to check up on us, ask jf we wanted anything else etc. We were tempted by a cocktail but having sat for so long with dirty dishes we left to go elsewhere. My husband went to the toilet while I waited in the foyer. A couple of minutes later, to my surprise I finally saw a member of staff who came out of the bar asking me to settle my bill! This took me much by surprise as we'd given our voucher at the start. I was then told that brunch doesn't include coffee! I am still shocked that a £90 champagne brunch does not include a hot drink. The staff member toldme a lot of people make that mistake! I think it is the hotel that perhaps needs to rethink this. Had someone come near our table I'm sure we would have been brought a bill rather than being chased down in the public area for £7.87! Which obviously included a service charge. Had I not been so embarrassed at being asked for payment in front of other people I'd have asked for that charge to be taken off. We are due to stay at the hotel for two nights this week which is not cheap. I am hoping the service is much better!

Good food had the Skye mussels and burger. Cocktails spot on and beautifully presented. Staff very attentive and polite.

Unfortunately restaurant was not busy which meant there was a lack of ambience. It was also quit cold. Service was quick and polite. We have gone for a pre theatre meal from the set Market menu. I was quite surprised to find that one of the starters and three of the five mains had a supplement of £8 or above. The food was passable but that was all. My friend has the turkey, veg was very hard even the roast potatoes and gravy very strong not really for Turkey. Overall our market menu turned out to be quite expensive for what it was plus a 12.5 % tip was automatically added.

I can sum up my evening here with two words, simply lovely! The food was amazing, the wine was amazing and the staff were friendly and knowledgable. If you’re in Edinburgh come here and you won’t be disappointed. Thank you for an amazing evening!

Beautiful concept, super impressed with the attention to detail in the presentation, the choice and the exquisite teas. The inventiveness. Absolutely loved the experience. Only downside … the food was all beautiful to look at but flavour / freshness let it down slightly.
