There was lineup the host was absent to greet us for our reservation. Eventually we were greeted with ‘you have a 1 hour time limit’, for Christmas dinner (a special occasion).
The server wasn’t trained properly, made multiple mistakes, including not giving gluten free soy sauce after we clearly mentioned the allergy, not taking our drink order (we had to call her back), not putting in the correct order (the manger made a bit of a mends by not charging us for the wrong one), and when the chef’s special arrived (it’s not specific on the menu which fish are being served), it was just dropped with no explanation as to what was what (thankfully we figured it out on our own). Also when we ordered the Oshi stating the gluten allergy, the server said ‘yes they are gluten free’, without mentioning that in order to make it so they would have to serve it without the sauce - which is kind of the point of the dish, otherwise it was just an overpriced square nigiri.
We ordered 2 matcha crème brûlée, one where the sugar top wasn’t glassed correctly (it was soft and didn’t break), plus both of them were curdled (from not being baked correctly).
We’re understanding how busy the holidays can be, and especially grateful for having places open on Christmas Day since we can’t be with our families, but this was a pretty brutal experience. Maybe we have high expectations, but being Vancouver in the middle of Yaletown, we certainly didn’t expect how poor the experience would be.
Our drinks were nice though.
Oh, and for a place that literally has “Oshi” in their title, why are there only two oshi options? Should that be a staple of the menu? Really odd.
