A big disappointment!
It started with the wine. The cheapest wine glass they have costs 25 euros. This was explained by the fact that they only had a "high class wine selection from the best area in Hungary". If it's a wine experience, fine, but it wasn't. Fortunately, we got to taste the wine recommended by the waiter before we ordered. The first wine tasted like nothing! The next glass had a completely boring taste. In the end we ordered a white wine which was initially recommended for a completely different dish than the pasta we were going to eat. Decent wine, but not at 25 euros.
Then it was time to wait for the food. After an hour we asked if maybe they had forgotten our order? No, they didn't mean that, but it took another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. By then the wine had long since been drunk. I asked if we could have a bottle of water so we could have something to drink with the meal. We couldn't, but we could have a glass of Prosecco. Those in the company who did not want Prosecco were offered nothing else.
In addition to arriving late, the food was not good either. The pasta dishes were not fully cooked (harder than al dente), the pizza base was chewy and the chicken was a dry chicken breast with no taste. Maybe the chef was sick? and if not, he/she should be replaced as soon as possible.
As if this was not enough, the restaurant was freezing. There was no proper wind lock in the door, so every time someone opened it, freezing cold air blew straight in. We ended up wearing jackets so as not to freeze (we are from Norway so used to the cold)
The overall experience could have been a little better if the butler had at least taken some responsibility or expressed a simple apology for the late and poor food/wine recommendation. This lack of professionalism and service attitude helped to reinforce our negative experience.
We weren't the only guests who were unhappy, the next table refused to pay for the food...
Steer away...
