   The food was average at best. Razor clams were gritty (not properly cleaned), the burrata was small and overpowered by the flavor of the pea consume. The server was friendly and attentive, however, he added a $30 dish to the bill that we did not order and then waited to collect the credit card and bill rather than give me time to review the bill (he expected that I would just put my card down without looking at it). I feel this was purposeful. Totally deceitful. I may try again, as there are so few “good” dining options in downtown San Mateo, but I will certainly know to check the bill next time.

   Pausa, like always, never disappoints. The staff are friendly, and the service is very accommodating and doesn't appear to frequently, but are always there at the right times to refill a drink and give you a proper amount of time between sitting down and coming back to the table. Pausa has a rotating menu for variety but a menu you can count on. For instance, while the second to last pasta listed will change in seasoning or sauce, it is always a beef option. Then, a lamb option will follow. Pausa is always a favorite to go to for us!

   Love this restaurant, we sat at the bar and everyone was attentive and friendly. We’ve been here a couple times and the food and atmosphere is on point.
