The two of us visited this brasserie during our week's holiday in Hastings. We have not treated ourselves to a carvery lunch for a number of years, mainly due to some (thankfully not all!) parents allowing their children to run and scream to their hearts content. With that that in mind I booked a table for 14:00 hoping for the noise level to have somewhat diminished by then. On arrival we were seated in the carvery area where it was possible to hold a conversation without having to shout. This set the tone for a truly superb food and service - a carvery we were hoping for. It was very impressive to see a choice of four roasts and since one could have a mixed plate (of three) we were lucky to try them all. Husband had turkey and beef and I opted for lamb and gammon. The cuts were generous and tasted superb. Unfortunately we could no sample the cauliflower cheese as it was finished by the time we were served. Not that we minded as the dish of vegetables delivered to our table was exactly what we were hoping for - carrots, French beans and savoy cabbage (none frozen, which I cannot abide!) perfectly cooked, not too hard and not too soft. Add a huge Yorkshire pudding (a bit high baked for my liking but husband enjoyed my rejected bits!) and lashings of gravy accompanied by a decent bottle of Malbec and it could not have been a more perfect Sunday lunch. Thank you everybody and if we are ever visiting Hastings of Sunday again we do hope to repeat this thoroughly enjoyable experience.
