Very rarely do you see a new concept take over an older establishment and TRULY transform a place the way the team has done over at Shand's. Wife and I have been dying to try this place and finally had a night where the schedules aligned and the stars did as well.
We booked a Friday night 7:30 and were immediately greeted by the hostess and brought to our table. The cocktail menu is well put together and shout out to whoever put the Tequila list together! Seeing some excellent choices there like G4, Lalo and Fortaleza IYKYK made my day!
Our server Brittany came over and got our drinks in quickly as we looked over the dinner menu. The Colonel was a work of art, the drinks are perfectly balanced and expertly crafted!
There's a true magic act done here and the saying "under promise, over deliver" really rang true here on the cocktail list & dinner menu. The menu almost looks a bit unassuming, there's some highlights that jump out off the page, but for the most part almost looks a bit reserved... then the drinks and food arrives and MY GOD! Talk about delivering on all fronts!
The presentation, temperature, portion sizes, everything was cooked to perfection and I cracked a joke about the "pile of fries" on my plate at first, but at the end of the meal I was scraping my plate clean looking for those fried bits of garlic and rosemary to sop up the last of that miraculously whipped bearnaise sauce. I went for the Pork Shoulder Frites and I'll be back for more! Wife ordered the burger and even said "should I order something else instead? No, that burger was everything you want!
All in all, we had a great experience in a beautifully transformed restaurant and we'll be back again for sure! Very few can pull off the "modern high end dining" experience in Suffolk County these days and SHAND'S has done it!
