Great addition to N. Austin food scene. I booked a table for NYE where we live in Georgetown....but a few days ago Open Table emailed list of new restaurants. Most were not new, but 1st time I saw Sixty Vines so investigated. From pics on google/yelp it was clear this was a diverse menu with lots of small dishes which we prefer. So cancelled La Riv and booked Sixty Vines. It was mobbed when we arrived but only had 10-15 minute wait for our table.
Our server Desiree was a delight. I am foody/chefie for 60 years so asked a number of questions about ingredients/recipes; she responded by going to the manager/kitchen to get answers. One she was not sure so asked Eric the manager to meet me and we had a detailed conversation about the dishes, preparations etc. Sixty Vines corp management should feel proud and fortunate to have such personable and communicative staff as Desiree and Eric. Desiree also asked the kitchen to customize several of our dishes.....she went above and beyond.
The noise level was kind of high due to the large space, full of maybe 200 people all drinking, eating and having fun, no soft surfaces to absorb sound, and background music.....so in that sense not an intimate spot. But still fun to be there and lot's of activity. The interior design is contemporary, hip and interesting.
We had 5 dishes each one perfect, difficult to pull off on any menu let alone in such a big venue. Ingredients were so fresh obviously well sourced. The eclectic menu with pasta/pizza touch is Austin but fits together perfectly so many options for mixing/matching dishes.
Caesar salad - just romaine and dressing....but dressing is the key and if you love anchovies like we do get it!
Burrata - every component was top notch with wood charcoal grilled world class bread made in house as the foundation
Roasted Cauliflower - masterpiece with eggplant puree that is to die for
Broccolini - the topping was killer, ask for extra you wont be sorry
Smashed taters - As good as it gets!!
