We entered the Biltmore and the lobby was PACKED with patrons sitting in the lobby drinking tea etc. We assumed this was the tea tasting. When we finally found it, it was literally across from the busy lobby, basically out in the open, no intimacy or seclusion from the Afternoon Tea experience.
Upon checking in with the hostesses, there was at least 2 minutes before anyone even said “Hi! We will be right with you.” When they did acknowledge us, they asked my name. I gave my last name and they confirmed my first and full name, so they verified my reservation.
Then, we were seated. Literally across from the busy lobby. Again, my reservation was already verified by the hostesses- they referenced my full name. When we got to the table, the hostess questioned my reservation again after providing us with menus and telling us to select what we wanted. We literally waited 30 minutes for someone to return, only to question my reservation again and was told someone else was confirmed our table; I felt as though they were accusing me of lying, even though original hostess stated my entire name! They sent a manager over to check again, where I even started to pull up a bank statement showing the hold that Open Table told me they would he charge to reserve the reservation, Email confirming the reservation and a Text I received both 24 and 48 hours confirming we were still arriving.
Finally, all of that proof sufficed and service started. For the increased charge of Afternoon Tea being that it was Christmas Day, they could have at least comped us the difference for the embarrassment and inconvenience they caused us, especially at a brand as well known as The Biltmore. I have dined and stayed at multiple Biltmore properties and this was the only one I have ever left feeling this poorly about.
The quality of the offerings for the Afternoon Tea were not worth the increased price for Christmas.
Sandra our server was very sweet though and the best part of our time.
