In 1960, R. J. “Bob” Lee opened The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo Texas on Route 66, the “Mother Road”. It’s distinctive architecture soon became recognized across the Mother Road as a good stopping place for great steaks grilled over an open flame. The Big Texan is famous for the FREE 72oz steak challenge, which includes eating a salad, baked potato, shrimp cocktail and 72 ounces of beef! Stop in and have a one of a kind experience with large, juicy steaks, cowboys and cowgirls, and take a dive into the Old Wild West!

Something this "shlocky" you would expect to fail on every count, but you would be wrong. Food was great and priced fairly. Staff was friendly and helpful. I will be back to The Big Texan if I get back to Amarillo. The Big Texan makes me want to come back to Amarillo. I would recommend them to everyone.

I’ve passed this place a few times and finally stopped. The atmosphere is great. The food had good flavor. Our waitress was attentive and beyond polite. It was busy yet the noise was manageable. I’m looking forward to stopping by every time when in the area. Don’t forget to try the delicious dessert.

Made a reservation for my sons birthday, seating 8 and was shown to a table with only 7 chairs. Waited almost 40 mins before a waitress presented herself and asked for our drink order. Zoey. Very rude. Didn't see her again but for a second when someone else brought out our food (which was the only thing good about the evening). Asked if our son would be getting a birthday announcement or sang happy birthday twice and was pasafied with a "Yes, I got you!", it never happened. When we were through we waited again for our ticket and 2 togo boxes for another half hour while she chatted and giggled with the other girls working l, near the hostess area. Near the hostess area there is a sign that reads " gratuity added for 10 + group", when she came to the table she told us that the printed wasn't working and she would had to just cash us out. We checked out, left a generous tip and selected the option to have the receipt emailed to us. Looking over the receipt, we see that she had already included a $30 gratuity tip for herself! Of course it made sense why the printer wasn't working and we couldn't view the ticket. I called and spoke to the manager whom was very nice, she refunded for the tips we put in but should have refunded the tips we made plus the gratuity that was added as well. Behavior like that does not deserve anything!

The hostess was fantastic and our waitress was wonderful. We make it a point to visit atleast every 4-8 weeks but this visit was one of our best.

Pure tourist trap. Hostess was indifferent and didn't care for us at all. Food and service was good, but the ambiance is just like Disney World, nothing authentic.

Great wait staff! Porterhouse Steak had a good amount of fat but did taste good. Sides were good. Rolls were good also.
