A friend and I dined here for our Christmas get together, thinking it looked really cosy and Christmassy and the menu sounded lovely. We were REALLY disappointed.
My friend isn't a fan of fondue, so we ordered the Tunworth Camembert - £33!! We assumed, considering the cost and the fact that the fondue comes with unlimited bread and extras, that this would come with SOMETHING ... but it doesn't! Just a whole camembert - I struggle to justify the price tag for this, you can get one in Waitrose for £8?! We had to then pay £6 for bread and got 2 small pieces of sourdough for that! If you consider the time and effort put in to such a simple dish, I really don't understand how you can justify pricing it so high! It wasn't even presented nicely, just in it's box with walnuts on top!
As well as this, the woman serving us made a real song and dance about the garlic dip that comes with crudities, so we agreed to order this alongside our cheese. This was basically just a handful of mis-shapen pieces of veg thrown on a plate with a small pot of what was essentially a garlic mayonnaise, that didn't look or taste homemade. I assume it was just out of a jar from a supermarket - the whole thing cost £13 and again I cannot understand this?! Absolutely no care on even the presentation of the dish.
Finally; do note that they will charge you £5 for a bottle of water, after I made the mistake of ordering still as opposed to tap water ...
All in all a £100 bill for something that was nothing more than a small snack, which lacked any finesse or excitement.
The venue was OK but it was quite basic in it's set up - the photos make it look cosy, with log fires etc - but it isn't.
SO gutted, as we had great expectations of this place and were quite excited for our visit, particularly as we'd heard amazing things about the Fire & Fromage pop up on Southbank. We REALLY wished we'd gone there instead ... this was a massive disappointment and just NOT worth the money.
