This was my second visit to the Choptank in Annapolis. The first was during the summer. I ordered the crab Ake platter both times and the crab cake was incredible each time. Unfortunately during the second visit, another at my table ordered the lobster Waldorf salad and found it so salty it was inedible. The manager took the salad off the bill and apologized, but for a seafood place, charging pretty high prices, with a pretty limited menu, the items on said menu should be the best quality.
I would love to see some seafood options in the children’s menu as well, and maybe add a side to some of the a la carte options. My boys both got steamed shrimp from the adult menu but ended up eating my fries because their food did not come with any sides. After taxes each 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp was over $20 per child and that was all they got. I’ll admit it’s a pet peeve of mine that children’s menus at specialty restaurants don’t typically include the types of food the establishments are known for on them. My boys love seafood, but the non option on their menus left them ordering from the adult menu at higher prices and not a lot of options for a full meal.
Our server was friendly enough but wasn’t super present. We had to wait a long time for refills on water. Also, the calamari we ordered was more breaded and fried peppers than actual calamari.
Overall I’d say this visit was mid range. The highs (the crab cake) were balanced by the lows (the salad, the kids menu, the calamari, and prices). It’s not a place I’d frequent but is good for a once in a while without my boys.
