Creativity, together with properly presented food, in a timely manner is the secret of our success in the kitchen. Our menu features pub classics alongside modern British and more unusual dishes from around the world. All of our food is freshly prepared with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients.
Whether you fancy a light pub snack, Sunday lunch with the family, a romantic dinner for two or a meal out with friends then dine with us.
We offer a range of delicious meals created by our talented chefs, cooked to order and accompanied by a full wine list, providing a combination of quality, fresh food, great wines and excellent service from our attentive and friendly staff. As our dishes are cooked to order, our chefs are happy to alter dishes to suit special dietary requirements, so just ask us if we can help.
Our menus change with the seasons, depending on available local produce, to ensure quality and freshness.

    Our waitress was faultless and the wine - an unoaked Chardonnay - was delicious. Sadly the same couldn’t be said for the food. My friend’s goats cheese parfait should have been much lighter, my calamari was crispy but mostly batter and our scallops were oily and overcooked. Somehow the pea purée had been made to taste the same as the beetroot purée! Our shared Eton Mess type pudding was vast but the meringues were also overcooked. Overall, it was disappointing. There were only three guests, including ourselves - how can this place survive? Henfield really needs a top end, quality restaurant for those special meals - come on, The George, you can be that place!

    My husband I went to the George for an anniversary meal. We were so looking forward to it, as it had been a very long since we had dined out. Although the setting, ambience, and service was outstanding, and my meal was very nice, my husbands main course was inedible. The staff were very understanding and apologetic, and offered him something else, which he declined. They did not charge us for his meal, but it didn't really help the disappointment. However, we will try again and hope for a better quality meal.

    Perhaps the hot weather was to our advantage but the restaurant was very quiet so we had a lot of space, and the staffs attention to ourselves, which was really good for us. The food was amazing from the starters to the main and then breakfast the following morning was just 1st class. You have to pay for good quality and high service and in my opinion every penny was worth it.

    Outstanding food with excellent presentation. It is pricey but you’re definitely paying for what you get. More of a treat night out rather than a mid week evening out but don’t let that stop you from trying it out. Recommending to everyone I know.

    "I will miss the bouillabaisse and that lemon posset", said my partner wistfully. And you can't really get a better review than that.
