This was not a fine dining experience, which we were expecting having reviewed the website photos and menu prices, and it was very disappointing. There was only one menu available which had less choice than one we'd looked at online. Whilst we didn't expect the menu to be exactly the same, we had an expectation that the level of choice would be similar.
A glass of white wine served in a red wine glass wasn't cold, so we asked for a replacement. When this arrived, despite a slight bloom on the glass the wine still wasn't properly chilled. We chose not to complain again but instead cancelled the other glass of white wine we had ordered to arrive with the main course.
Our starters were ok but neither warranted the hefty price tags, especially 3 scallops at £16 which weren't very hot. The halibut priced at £27 was nice but was accompanied by a hard lump of "potato fondant" and didn't come with any other vegetables. We'd queried the complete absence of sides from the menu when ordering and were told we could order green beans. We ordered a portion to share which came laden with chillies (we weren't asked if we had any allergies or whether we were happy with a spicy dish) and when the bill came we were horrified to note these cost £7. The ballotine of turkey with roasted vegetables, priced at £25, was awful. Aside from the carrots, none of the other vegetables were cooked properly and the parsnip was virtually raw. The waitress offered to take the dish back to the chef and exchange it for something else which we appreciated, but at this point we'd given up on the evening being in any way special so declined her offer.
When the bill came the waitress said the service had been taken off. Whilst we appreciated the gesture, it was the quality of the food and drink at issue, not the service. The bill without service came to just under £100 for 2 courses for 2 people with one 125ml glass of wine. We were in the restaurant for under an hour.
