The Punchbowl is a 17th century gastro pub, located in the heart of rural Essex and the Crouch Valley and the South Essex Salt marshes.

We offer nose-to-tail style menu, with unpretentious dishes that focus on flavour. Everything is made in house - from bread to mayonnaise, and we use local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Our menu changes daily, as the season's best comes in, and always features day boat fish, meat, offal, rare breed steaks and excellent vegetarian cookery.

Our beautiful garden bar has a lawn and york-stone patio looking out across the farmland of Paglesham and the River Crouch. Throughout the summer we offer BBQ dining from our hand-cranked Asado and Rotisserie Grills.

    Fallow Deer season ends on 30th April, so we salute this wonderful venison as another season closes. But as one door closes, another opens. Shellfish & Wild Bass are in-and the garden is really starting to show its paces. Rhubarb, beans, peas and seed potatoes such as the mighty Jersey Royal come into their finest.     Superb food, very high quality environment, spotless linen serviettes/tablecloth and a waitress who was polite and charming. It was a very enjoyable lunch.

    A wonderful place to visit, eat and drink. Beautifully restored country pub with excellent food and a truly friendly service. Lovely to see it comfortably full in the restaurant and also in the bar where friendly dogs are welcomed.

    A most enjoyable lunch. The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly and accommodating in a busy lunchtime session. The food was of the highest quality. We would have no hesitation in returning for a further meal. The cost of the meal was in excess of what we would normally pay, but for a special occasion, it made it a memorable experience.

    Was such a lovely lunch, celebrating my Mums birthday. The food was delicious!! Great portion size and value!! The Panacotta was heavenly! There was a great selection of ales and bitters and the hostess was very friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to visit again!! Also beautiful pottery on the table was a lovely touch!!

    Our first visit. Great beer,food and sevice. The pub has been totally refurbished to a high standard. Certainly a lot different to when I was a regular in the 80s. 😃 Can't wait to return and try more dishes.
