The Punchbowl is a 17th century gastro pub, located in the heart of rural Essex and the Crouch Valley and the South Essex Salt marshes.
We offer nose-to-tail style menu, with unpretentious dishes that focus on flavour. Everything is made in house - from bread to mayonnaise, and we use local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Our menu changes daily, as the season's best comes in, and always features day boat fish, meat, offal, rare breed steaks and excellent vegetarian cookery.
Our beautiful garden bar has a lawn and york-stone patio looking out across the farmland of Paglesham and the River Crouch. Throughout the summer we offer BBQ dining from our hand-cranked Asado and Rotisserie Grills.
Creativity, flexibility and preservation come into play during the Hungry gap; a term given by growers to the period after winter and before Spring really begins when the first of the green vegetables start to flourish.

Spring has sprung! Wonderful English lamb and suckling pigs start to show at market and asparagus and beans become ripe for the picking. Easter beckons and optimism reigns supreme. Herring are at one of their two annual peaks and Oysters start to lose their milky flesh.

Fallow Deer season ends on 30th April, so we salute this wonderful venison as another season closes. But as one door closes, another opens. Shellfish & Wild Bass are in-and the garden is really starting to show its paces. Rhubarb, beans, peas and seed potatoes such as the mighty Jersey Royal come into their finest.
