The Punchbowl is a 17th century gastro pub, located in the heart of rural Essex and the Crouch Valley and the South Essex Salt marshes.
We offer nose-to-tail style menu, with unpretentious dishes that focus on flavour. Everything is made in house - from bread to mayonnaise, and we use local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Our menu changes daily, as the season's best comes in, and always features day boat fish, meat, offal, rare breed steaks and excellent vegetarian cookery.
Our beautiful garden bar has a lawn and york-stone patio looking out across the farmland of Paglesham and the River Crouch. Throughout the summer we offer BBQ dining from our hand-cranked Asado and Rotisserie Grills.
We are so lucky to kick off our inaugural Supper Club with a wealth of incredible local game. We have Venison, Mallard, Teal, Widgeon and Wild Goose. Various preparations allow us to highlight the subtle and unique flavours distinct to each of our quarry species. Expect classic cooking, classic garnishes and flavours that only Great British Cooking can offer.

Escoffier codified the 5 mother sauces; Hollandaise, Demi-glace, Espagnole, Sauce Tomat & Bechâmel. Join us as we explore and taste the backbone of French cookery, pairing sauces with meats and fish to show how important a good sauce is to a dish.
As Rob’s Grandad used to say - “Never mind that, who’s doing the gravy?”
