Formerly a 13th century coaching inn, The Bear Hotel sits serenely at the centre of the charismatic market town of Woodstock, close to Blenheim Palace. Complete with period features, oak beams and rich interiors, it’s a hidden gem where the combination of history, and exceptional service ensures a memorable dining experience.

      We have used this venue over the years to meet friends for lunch. We booked a table in the restaurant expecting a full lunchtime menu. All that was available was fish and chips, burger, salads or sandwiches. So with little choice we all chose the fish and chips and it was very greasy. There were very few people in the hotel - and I’m not surprised. We will not be going again.

      The menu served is nothing like the menu that is on the website. Much smaller. Food we tasty but over priced for what you can get in a restaurant across the road. Many other options in the area. Breakfast was very good if you are staying there.

      We had a lovely Sunday lunch here! The food was delicious and all of our party said it was one of the best quality meals we have had out in a long time! Service was really great too.

      The dinner menu was quite limited and I think I would struggle to find something appealing if I was staying for more than one night. However, having made a selection the food and service were both excellent. The ambience was OK but I was shocked that there were so many children and toddlers all over the restaurant after 9 p.m. Hardly the fault of the hotel, but it detracted from the evening - maybe a ‘family area’ would help ? Same story at breakfast too.

      We had wonderful time over afternoon tea. Very friendly personnel, amazing presentation, great atmosphere especially around Christmas and delicious food. Strongly recommended!
