    My first time dining experience at The Straits Restaurant was wonderful! The food, décor & ambiance is elegant, yet fun & unique. As I mentioned to our waiter, concierge & manager, “The Straits is showy, but fun & different. Never a dull time.”

    Unfortunately, despite beautiful ambience and kind but terribly understaffed waitstaff, the food was extremely disappointing. For breakfast there are no healthy choices— even the oatmeal comes with sugar and butter. There are no low-fat or alternative plant milks. Dinner was also quite bland and unimaginative although the potato bread was excellent and they did offer extra on that! For such a fine hotel, the food quality is a serious shortcoming and the prices are high.

    The best food we've had on the island. Cost more reasonable. The view of Mighty Mack the best. Service was attentive without being intrusive. My only disappointment was my Old Fashioned.

    One of the best places to dine on the island for a special occasion. Our service was exceptional, and the food was a delight. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff did not miss any detail by offering a free glass of champagne and a special dessert that had happy anniversary written in chocolate. The view from the Terrace of the Mackinac bridge and the beautiful grounds was stunning. It’s pricey, but worth it. You could easily spend the same amount on much lower quality dining experiences in town in the more tourist areas. At first, we were intimidated by the walk from town, but it was not at all a burden. It took maybe 20 minutes of walking on beautiful paved trails.

    Our service was fantastic. We had oysters, our two little ones enjoy their Cheeseburgers, our dinner was the steak and Amish chicken and one of each of the deserts. Very attentive staff, food came out with perfect temps and timing was fantastic. We had after dinner cocktails on the lawn while our kids played and we enjoyed the view. Would highly recommend dinner here and it is more formal. You can also sit outside on the patio for dinner which offers views and a fountain. The carriage ride from the Sheeplers dock was about 40 minutes to the hotel.

    This was our first time dining at The Straits. Will definitely be returning, we may have found our new favorite spot on the island. Our server, Kahomie, was exceptional. 10/10 would recommend.
