My wife and I went here on a Saturday afternoon for the first time after seeing it listed as the top Italian restaurant in VA on an internet list. It did not disappoint. The ambience is nice and friendly. It is not a white table cloth joint, but what I would call upscale casual. It clearly caters to the well off set in the surrounding Clifton area. A small bar, raw bar, two indoor dining areas and a dining courtyard out back makes it bigger than it seems when you first come in.
Service was very good. It isn't Inn at Little Washington level, but nicely paced (I'd say perfectly paced), friendly, and professional. We were promptly seated and served even though we showed up an hour before our reservation.
Nice selection of cocktails, beer and wine (not a huge list). Wine list includes some from the local winery. I had a local Viognier I thought pretty good.
The food was delicious, with a good selection of dishes. (This isn't a Mom and Pop Italian place that has everything with marinara sauce.) The house made pasta was perfectly cooked and deliciously tender. I had a carbonara dish that was excellent. My wife had a house special with crab and shrimp in a white wine sauce that she loved. We also had a nice cheese plate and date salad as appetizers - also very good. The only thing not first rate was my cannoli. The filling was so-so, but I'm a born New Yorker and a bit of a snob when it comes to good Italian pastries.
Definitely recommend - we will be going back.
