Came here on 11/20/24 with my friend for my bday. It was my first time here. I ordered the peach cobbler french toast, eggs, cheese grits, & turkey bacon. 1) The eggs came out cold. The server took it back & brought out new eggs, which looked completely different from the first eggs, but whatever. Not that big of a deal, 2) I got down to the last couple of bites & found a black strand of hair on my french toast (my hair is blonde). I showed the server, who acted like she couldn't see the hair. So I picked the french toast up & showed her. She wasn't apologetic & had no words, but she took the plate back to the kitchen. The manager came out & explained that because I notified the server when I was almost done with my food, they usually wouldn't give a refund. However, she was going to give us a 30% discount. She also stated that all of their chefs were bald. I explained to her that I notified the server when I noticed the hair & although their chefs were bald, it could've came from the server (who had long weave). My friend even mentioned that it was my bday & she was paying for my food & confirmed that I didn't notice the hair until I was almost done with my food. The manager acknowledging that she knew it was my bday, still explained that she was only going to take 30% off.
It's sad that as a black person, it's hard to support black businesses. It shouldn't have mattered when I saw the hair, as long as I notified the server & the hair was clearly still on the plate. She acted like I ate the hair & the food, then notified them. Had it been a white business, the manager would've been so apologetic & would've not charged us for the meal, whether it was my bday or not, especially since they also gave me cold eggs initially. In addition, they would've probably even given us a gift card. However, not a black restaurant. Instead the manager made such a big deal about when I said something about the hair.
