Ula is a beautiful European Mediterranean restaurant and tapas bar in San Francisco. Sip your martini or quality wine with a seafood-centric menu that has a focus on raw, roasted, and grilled fish and various roasted and grilled meats, pasta, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan selections. The restaurant is maximalist art deco with fixtures that depict jellyfish, oysters, and grand maritime vessels. Just a hop from Union Square, the delightfully vintage dining room begs to be paired with a nostalgic trolley ride and a stroll through the heart of the city. This is the only menu available; there will not be an a la carte option. Cancellations within seven days of the reservation will result in a per person charge of $50. Cancellation policy will also apply to cancellations due to COVID 19 and all health or travel related circumstances. So happy to find this restaurant. It’s great place to dine especially if you’ll be attending a show at the SF Playhouse. The decorations are superb along w the food and service!

The decor inside the restaurant was breathtaking, and the service was above and beyond. The food was good, but the portions were small, especially since it was expensive. I did expect more than four ravioli, for example.

Ula was highly rated and located right next to our hotel. We were excited to try it. Food was disappointing: our filet was way over done - it came well done and we ordered medium rare. It was also swimming in gravy sauce. Our ravoli was unremarkable. It was also swimming in sauce with tasteless fish on top.

Honestly the photos look a lot cooler, the place is an interesting place, it’s cool with the design, but the food was OK, the service was very slow, we didn’t get greeted for about 25 minutes when we got there, some of the food was late in coming, we ended up being there way longer than we needed to, just so we can finish eating. We didn’t get checked on that much and there were literally only a few other tables/guests there. Every other place was booked up on a Saturday night, this place was half empty, so that should’ve been a warning perhaps. Bar was good, but I expected a little bit more out of the food, like the filet mignon, and halloumi cheese were whatever. The beef tartare was good on the side of bread was also very good. Not bad, but will try other places next time.

The staff was friendly but the server didn't know the difference between basic red and white wine varieties. The beverage menu listed items that were no longer available. The digestif I ordered came in chilled class and after my guest finished her dessert. Port should not be served chilled. Prices were much higher than reasonable for even simple menu items. We shared a pasta dish, an appetizer and had two cocktails. The price was $140. I was unable to express my dissatisfaction with the subpar service as a 20% gratuity was included.
