While the experience was mostly very good, it wasn't quite 5 stars at this price level - about £170 for lunch for 3, with only 1 medium glass of house red, and 2 glasses of house cordial. To me, this is expensive and I expect perfection!
The atmosphere was fine, the seating was very comfortable, service very helpful, the noise level acceptable and the food was mostly very good and enjoyed by all three of us.
I was impressed that they had noted my food intolerances from my booking and were ready with a list telling me what I shouldn't eat, which still left plenty of choice.
It was suggested that we order 5 or 6 dishes between us.
We ordered olives (large, firm and unpitted, as they should be), 3 of the smaller plates (£9-=£16) and 3 of the larger items (£23-26). If we had not had two lots of very tasty and crisp bread, I would still have been hungry as the majority of the dishes were very light and of limited quantity when shared.
My companions loved their Creme Brulée dessert, but I found my Chestnut Gelato to be unappetising - the ice-cream had little flavour beyond vanilla, the baked chestnuts and fruit slices added little, and the large amount of set cream actively detracted (I did say that I preferred without cream). I left most of it.
The in-house peach cordial spritzer came in a small-ish glass filled with ice (unwanted). At £4.50, I want at least 200ml before ice!
