    The service was good and the setting was lovely. We had nibbles (bread and olives) instead of a starter. I had trouble choosing what to have, nothing jumped out at me as anything I really wanted to try (we were also given a specials menu, but it was very similar to the main menu), I asked the waiter for his opinion between the ox cheek and the chicken, he said the ox cheek is his favourite thing on the menu, although he said it’s very rich, it was indeed very rich, I’m not sure what the puréed vegetable underneath it was, but I wasn’t overly keen, and didn’t eat all of my meal, maybe some fresh vegetables to go with it would’ve made it more palatable. We shared a bottle of nice red wine and had some port and a liqueur coffee. A service charge was added to the bill. We thought it was quite expensive for a catch up lunch for 2 - just under £200, but that was probably our own fault for liking the port (the best part of the meal for me!) so much. Nice to go somewhere I’ve never been before, but I’m not in a hurry to return.

    I would have liked more choice of vegetables as sides. It was 9 pm and there was a baby shrieking in the restaurant. Otherwise all good.

    What can I say. We visited again this year as we come to York for a weekend every December and the food and service was superb. The quality of the food is first class and the service was second to none. The waiter Sebastian kept us informed on the foods on the menu and was so helpful the whole time we were there. Just wish there was a table available so we could have had another couple of drinks after our food. I would seriously recommend this place to everyone I know.

    The restaurant was very busy . Service was very good and the food arrived very quickly and was ok.. But, the whole experience felt rushed, like a conveyor belt almost. There’s no vegetables with any of the mains… which I felt was poor. The ox cheeks were delicious but would have been complimented with a small side of baby carrots and greens . We were told as we got our dessert that they needed our table so chop chop ( not exactly what he said) but that was the message. No coffees offered. We were shuffled off to finish our wine at a cold drafty table in the bar after being presented with the bill and a card machine at our table. Overall, food ok, service efficient but overall experience not great. Disappointed given the bill was almost £180 for 2 of us.

    We had the pleasure of dining at The Star Inn last night and our table loved it! We feared we might not get a table due to an error with dates most likely at our end but Daryl made it happen for us. What a fantastic effort! Once seated our every need was catered for by Sebastian who went who made sure we didn’t want for nothing. The food was absolutely Devine and once again we could do nothing but compliment the Star Inn in its entirety. we will definitely be back on our next trip to York. Thank you all so very much
